SPECIALITY AREAS

Steven J. Weber

As with my partner, Joe, I was also raised in the New York metropolitan area, receiving my BA from Rutgers University before moving to the West Coast. I attended Law School at the University of San Francisco on a partial academic scholarship, published and edited for the U.S.F. Law Review, represented my school in the National Moot Court Competition, was active in student politics and elected to the McAuliffe Honor Society. All during law school, I worked as a law clerk for several prominent San Francisco firms, gaining exposure to several areas of litigation including commercial, criminal and anti-trust. These experiences have led me to my eventual area of practice, civil litigation on behalf of the wrongfully injured.

My legal career started as a baptism by fire, since my then-employer/mentor had suffered a health problem which required me to immediately handle all of his active cases. Within weeks of being admitted to the California Bar, I was presenting oral argument before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in a murder case. Within a month I had tried my first case in the Federal District Court for the Northern District of California and three months thereafter I tried my first jury case in the San Francisco Superior Court. Since then, I have had dozens of trials both here and throughout the Western states. These cases have all involved my representing the injured party and have ranged from those involving vehicle accidents to products liability to industrial injuries to fraud and theft. As well, I have had considerable experience in securities and medical malpractice litigation.

Outside of the legal profession, I have worked at a variety of jobs mostly to pay college and law school tuition. These were mostly blue collar/no collar jobs ranging from house painting to construction to boiler making. I served as a military officer both on active duty and in the reserves for over eight years: Captain, U.S. Army (Infantry).

I am admitted to practice before all the federal and state courts in California as well as the United States Supreme Court. I belong to all the relevant legal associations including the American Bar Association (ABA), Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA), American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), Consumer Attorneys of California (COAC), San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association (SFTLA), San Francisco Bar Association, among others. I have served as a director on the boards of the SFTLA and the USF Law Society.

Since having been appointed in 1992, I have donated my time to serve as a Temporary Judge of the Superior Court of California. I have also served as a judicial arbitrator for the Superior Courts of San Francisco and Marin counties, as a commercial arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and as Kaiser medical malpractice party arbitrator.
