In the early afternoon of October 8, 2014 at approx. 1:18 p.m., a 61 year-old man riding a Kawasaki motorcycle on Mission Boulevard in Fremont (off Highway 880 near Kato Road) was knocked from his motorcycle by the rear axle of a big-rig double tanker trailer. The unfortunate motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries. The big-rig driver left the scene, and a California Highway Patrol investigation is ongoing.

On the morning of Saturday, November 2, 2013, a 40-year old male bicyclist was riding north in the bicycle lane on Highway 1 near Dimeo Lane in Santa Cruz, accompanied by several other bicyclists. A northbound 2013 Tesla Model S veered into the bike lane and struck the cyclist. The unfortunate bicycle rider died as a result of his injuries.
