On Monday, October 21, 2013, San Jose Police reported that Catherine Maxwell was a pedestrian near the corner of Patio Drive and Leigh Avenue in San Jose, when she was struck by a car. She died from her injuries.

On Saturday, October 12, 2013, a couple walking in a crosswalk on Santa Rita Road at Francisco Street in Pleasanton were both struck by a car. Ms. Yizhen Zhou suffered injuries which led to her death. Her husband suffered severe injuries and remains in the hospital.
